Branding: How I Use Social Media in a Typical Day

Sharing how I use digital media in a typical day includes, regularly checking my instagram that has all of my friends, and checking my facebook that has my family.

It is interesting because my Instagram is less personal with 5000 friends, and my Facebook is with all of my family and only have 30 people on there.

But, I keep a “Family” Facebook just so that I am able to check in with my family, since they live all over the world.

However, I visit Instagram most often because it has more activity and more people on it. So, there is always more information.

I have a mix of positive and negative reactions. I realize that my personal instagram account gives me some depression and anxiety and I know that I am not alone on this matter. Sometimes I catch myself comparing my life to others. At the age of 28, most of my friends are posting pictures of their family, but I am living in New York while I am still working and studying. I definitely do not relate to my friends as much because of this.

My needs are not satisfied because I always feel the need to post and keep up with what is going on with other peoples lives and in the news. If I am off social media, I miss out on all of the latest news of the coronavirus. I am not satisfied with either platform because of privacy concerns.

I never receive emails from companies on the main platforms I use, but I do receive messages from companies on my LinkedIn. The ones that have stood out to me in the past are marketing positions. I notice that the use of digital media in marketing is always changing, in terms of what is trending online. Whatever is trending in businesses, politics, and hard news is more likely to be spoken about by audiences on to their personal profiles. It is interesting how digital platforms have businesses and organizations intertwined in to peoples personal lives, all on one profile per platform
